If you felt that there hasn’t been enough of The Walking Dead, you’re in luck. A new spinoff, marking the 6th series in the franchise overall, is releasing in September. This new series will focus on everyone’s favorite character—Daryl Dixon.
It seems that AMC is looking to continue expanding the universe, as they released Dead City earlier this year, centering on Maggie and Neagan, and they have The Ones Who Live set for 2024, which will see Andrew Lincoln reprising his role as Rick Grimes. Moving back to the series at hand, let’s take a look at Daryl Dixon and everything you need to know about it, from the cast to episode count to release date.
What is the Daryl Dixon show about?

The latest installment in The Walking Dead Universe follows Daryl Dixon after the events of the original series. From what little info has been released, we know that Daryl wakes up on a shore in France, unaware of how he got there. The viewers are also unaware since we last saw him in Season 11 of The Walking Dead when he set out on a new adventure on a motorcycle—not a boat.
While there isn’t too much info out there, we can infer a few things from the titles of the first three episodes, all of which are in French. The first is “L’ame Perdue,” which can aptly be translated to “Lost Soul,” which is clearly in reference to Daryl. The second episode is slightly more mysterious, as it’s titled “Alouette,” which can either be a reference to the popular French children’s song of the same name or the bird the song is named after, the lark.
Finally, we come to the third episode titled “Paris Sera Toujours Paris,” which translates to “Paris Will Always Be Paris,” suggesting that Daryl makes it to the capital in the third episode, which will be interesting since we’ve essentially only seen the American version of the zombie apocalypse.
You’ll be pleased to know that most (if not all) of the filming for Daryl Dixon was done in France, giving the show a more authentic feel. After all, why recreate Paris in the desert of California when you can just shoot in Paris?
Do I need to watch The Walking Dead to understand Daryl Dixon?
Yes and no. Obviously, it would help immensely if you saw The Walking Dead and understood who Daryl is and what he’s been through, but you can just as easily watch a recap of the character on YouTube to try and catch yourself up to speed. It is a continuation of his storyline, which is why we suggest watching The Walking Dead before Daryl Dixon.
That said, The Walking Dead ran for 11 seasons with 177 episodes, so it’ll take you quite a while to catch up. That, paired with the well-known drop-off in quality in the later seasons, could make it a hard watch.
Who is in Daryl Dixon?
If you haven’t figured it out yet, yes, Daryl Dixon is in Daryl Dixon. Norman Reedus reprises his role as the titular character and finds himself alongside Clemence Posey as Isabelle, a member of a religious group who joins Daryl in France. We also have Adam Nagaitis as Quinn, the owner of a nightclub in Paris. Fans will be excited to hear that Melissa McBride is coming back as Carol Peletier, but from what people have heard, her appearances will be limited in the series.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Release Date
The new series is set to release on September 10th at 9 PM Eastern, 8 PM Central. As it is an AMC production, you’ll be able to catch it on AMC and AMC+. The show has already been renewed for a second season without even seeing how the first season performs, but that still has an unannounced release date. With the recent writer strikes, it might be put on hold until studios can come to an agreement with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
How many episodes will be in the Daryl Dixon series?
There will be six episodes in total in the first season of Daryl Dixon. Each episode will feature a title in French, so be sure to have your translator ready if you want to get a little hint before watching. The episodes will be released weekly from September 10th all the way to October 15th.
