Jae Heydari is a Cold Trader that your Rogue Trader can romance in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader. She has a flirtatious and over-the-top personality that will have you dealing with allegations of extortion (which are true), voidship vandalism, and inappropriate uses of vox broadcasts. Here’s how to romance Jae Heydari, understand her character motivations, and find all of her companion quest locations in Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader
Important notes for Jae Heydari’s romance
Jae just asks you to run a bunch of errands for her. Unlike the other companions, her romance isn’t deeply entangled with the main quests of Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader which makes things simpler and easier, not to mention the fact that her romance feels like a fun break from the rest of the game. There are no major conversation flags to look out for when it comes to Jae since she’s a pretty easy read with only two key outcomes that a smitten Rogue Trader would need to know about.
Meet Jae Heydari in Footfall during the ‘Persona Non Grata’ Quest
You first meet Jae Heydari during the quest ‘Persona Non Grata’ after spotting her arguing with Liege Tocara at the Liege’s Palace. Follow her to the Adeptus Amasecus’s bar, the Martyr’s Endurance, which is located in the Shadow Quarters. Here, she’ll rope you into helping her get her shipment of illicit goods back and, perhaps not by coincidence, puts you in the middle of a conflict between her and Liege Tocara. You can learn more about how to recruit Jae Heydari in this Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader companion recruitment guide.
Speak with Jae on the voidship
After recruiting Jae, you’ll be able to talk to her and flirt on the voidship. She’s brazen in her flirting and you can be just as brazen as she is, even to the point of asking if she has a lover just so you know who you have to kill (very Rogue Trader behavior). She’ll refuse to roll into bed with you right away and will ask for a gift so that you can prove your affection for this supposed princess of Efreet.
A very expensive (but not for a Rogue Trader) gift for Jae Heydari
You’ll get a quest called ‘A Quest for Jae Heydari’ that tells you to ask everyone on the voidship about what gift they suggest you give to Jae. Feel free to ask all your companions since they don’t really react to it even if you have an active romance with them. If you want to skip all the work, go straight to High Factotum Janris to ask about what gift to give Jae. He’ll tell you to give her a whole planet to herself so she can escape her enemies in the Cold Trade.
Get a gift from Jae
Jae will give you a gift. It’s a lacerax, basically a space lion. You can pet it and it sits next to your throne on the bridge. Pretty neat.
Deal with Jae and High Factotum Janris’ drama
There will be several warp travel events that involve Jae if you’re romancing her and a lot of them are drama between her and Janris. They’re both telling you the truth, but not the whole truth. Generally, you’ll want to deal with things with an even hand but know that while Jae is extorting people by using your name, Janris is also trying to get in Jae’s pants.
Help Jae get her Mercatum Tabulae Officiale
This is the only hard part of Jae’s romance. Go to Dargonus and visit the office of the Adeptus Administratum for the ‘Mercatum Tabulae Officiale’ quest. This takes you on a wild goose chase through the stars in search of… seals to do paperwork with. The seals for Jae’s quest are in Oasis – Ancient Bunker in the Nameless Star system and in Janus.
In Janus, meet with Atilius Quint to get the seal for the Mercatum Tabulae Officiale quest. He’ll be near your landing site. In Dargonus, Clementia Werserian will tell you they don’t have a seal and send you to one of the Winterscale territories to look for one. She’ll give you a laundry list, but ignore it and go to Oasis V’s Ancient Bunker. Save scum here because the vents will poison your party gradually and end in a game over if even one of them dies.
Inside the Ancient Bunker, go left and open the door to find the showers. There, you’ll find a locker with a Worn Seal.
I know it feels tedious but stick to it because it is absolutely hilarious once you get back to the Adeptus Administratum office.
Warning notes: This quest is so bugged. There’s really no flags to look out for, it’s the entire quest flow itself that has bugs.
Celebrate with Jae
Once Jae has her Mercatum Officiale Tabulae, she will invite you to celebrate with her on Footfall with her Cold Trade buddies. This starts the quest ‘Jae Heydari’s Celebration’. Yeah, Owlcat didn’t spend as much time thinking about her romance if the quest names are to go by, go figure. Anyway, go to the Martyr’s Endurance and get black-out drunk with Jae. You really can’t piss her off here so just pick whatever you like. At some point in the night, the game will foreshadow a later companion quest.
You’ll wake up on the voidship and in bed with Jae. At this point, you may or may not have smashed yet depending on whether you committed to giving Jae a planet. Vox Master Vigdis will be happy to fill you in on your wild drunken shenanigans.
Just don’t kill Jae for releasing your sex tape to the entire voidship
If you do have sex with Jae, there will be a sequence where you find out she broadcasted your uh…private meeting to the entire voidship. Remember the prologue where Theodora sent out a broadcast to the entire voidship from her quarters? Turns out that broadcast can’t be interrupted by external means.
Find Jae in Commoragh
If you brought Jae to the Atlas Reach System for the ‘Following Breadcrumbs’ quest, she’ll be taken to Commoragh with you. You can find out more about how to find Jae during the Reunion quest here. She should be outside the Anatomical Opera. If you bring her to Commoragh, you’ll find out that the experiments done on her gives her cancer.
Rescue Jae’s crew
After you get out of Commoragh, you’ll be slammed with main quests, side quests, and companion quests. Jae will make her request too by asking you to help her save her crew in the ‘Rat Hunting’ quest. Just go to Footfall and Jae will fill you in and give you the tools for the job (she’s asking you to commit domestic terrorism in Footfall).
Follow Jae to the Martyr’s Endurance and go downstairs to reach the sewers. This is a timed quest. Not time sensitive, timed. You have to turn on all the valves before the gas cylinder explodes. Sneak past Falco’s guards and turn on the valves in the area.
Warning note: Save scum. This quest is so bugged that sometimes the valves can’t be interacted with. Also, don’t get caught because if Falco and his goons figure out you’re there, he’ll kill Jae’s friends.
Jae Heydari romance endings
Jae’s romance can be done without any respect to your alignments. Well, mostly. Jae Heydari currently has three known endings, two of which end well.
- Jae Heydari falls in love with your Rogue Trader but doesn’t stay committed nor by your side.
- Jae stays committed to you but it’s implied that you two do space merchant things separately. Still, it’s cute that your Rogue Trader builds a new voidship and names it the Lady Jae.
- One of the bad endings happens if you’re a Heretical Rogue Trader. It says that after Jae tried to live a life free from the fear of dying cold and hungry, you abandon her on Epitaph to starve to death in the dark.
