Aun’shi’s Philosophies of War Legendary Release Event (LRE or LE) is currently the only way to get this character in Warhammer 40K: Tacticus. If you want to get this meta-relevant character that can improve your Guild Raid damage, then you’d do well to do some research beforehand. Here’s a guide to the entire event so that you can unlock this character without having to spend too much money—or none at all (hopefully).
Aun’shi is currently on his 2nd event, but there will be one more before he is added to the requisition pool or a possible future campaign. If you don’t get him this time around, you’ll have one more shot and can better prepare for it now that you know what to expect. His 3rd event has not been announced just yet and is at least several months away.
Preparing for Aun’shi’s Event
Let’s start off with who this event is for. If you’re relatively new or have only been playing for a few months, don’t expect to unlock Aun’shi. These events are peak end-game content, and only low-level players that buy both packs or high-level players with a kitted-out roster will be able to complete it.
If you have all the necessary characters at S1/S2, you’ll still need to buy both packs to unlock Aun’shi (more on the packs later). S3/G1 rosters can probably get away with 1 pack. If you have a G1/G2 roster, you should be able to easily complete the event and unlock Aun’shi, permitted that you use your tokens wisely and efficiently.
To prepare for the event, you’re going to want to look at which characters are the most relevant and fit the majority of the level requirements. Each level will have different requirements, such as No Summons, Max 1-Hit, Power Damage Only, etc. Figuring out what the requirements are beforehand and leveling the required characters is the best way to prepare for the event. Some people spend the weeks leading up to these events solely focused on upgrading LRE characters.
For Aun’shi, the requirements for each of the three tracks are as follows:
Alpha (No Orks)
- Piercing Damage Only
- Melee Only
- Max 2 Hits
- Min 3 Hits
- No Physical Damage
Beta (No Imperial)
- Mechanical Only
- No Resilient Trait
- Melee Only
- Physical Damage Only
- No Summons (Summoning characters are okay, just don’t summon units)
Gamma (No Chaos)
- Physical Damage Only
- No Flying
- No Overwatch
- No Power Damage
- Max 1 Hit
Characters to Focus on For Aun’shi’s LRE
For Aun’shi’s LRE, you will need a wide roster that isn’t exactly made up of the most meta-relevant characters. A community content creator, Nandi, always puts together great infographics that you can use to aid in your decision-making and preparation. The following character recommendations are based on the Event Matrix that he put together, so be sure to check out his video for a more visual rundown. Nandi videos are a great source of information, and we highly recommend you subscribe to stay updated on future events.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the characters you’ll need, broken up by each track and the smaller teams within it.
Alpha Track (No Orks)
The Alpha track can be broken up into three teams:
- Piercing: Incisus, Sho’Sly, Ulf, Calandis, Eldryon (Haarken, Aethana)
- No Physical and Max 2 Hits: Incisus, Sho’Syl, Eldryon, Archimatos, Yarrick
- Melee Only and Min 3 Hits: Isabella, Angrax, Aleph-Null, Bellator, Ulf
The 2nd and 3rd teams have multiple substitutes if you are missing a character or have another one leveled higher, so be sure to check out the matrix if you aren’t feeling comfortable with those units listed. The Piercing team is pretty much as-is, but you can replace some characters with Haarken Worldclaimer or Aethana. Ulf is great against the Orks in this track, as he will automatically attack any summons that moves into his range.
Beta Track (No Imperials)
The Beta Track is also broken up into three separate teams and is as follows:
- Mechanical and No Resilient: Makhotep, Aleph-Null, Snappawrecka, Re’vas, (Thutmose, Anuphet, Imospekh, Gulgortz as the 5th)
- Melee and No Summons: Aleph-Null, Gibbascrapz, Angrax, Nauseous Rotbone, Maladus
- Physical Damage Only: Makhotep, Snappwrecka, Gibbascrapz, Snotflogga, Tanksmasha
This track is a little less forgiving, and you might have to break it up into even more teams, depending on your roster. The first team can use any of the ones listed as a 5th. Anuphet would be a good choice, thanks to his summons. Remember that for the second team, you can use characters that have the ability to summon; just don’t do it. Don’t summon Gibba’s tank or Aleph’s scarabs, and you’ll still get the points. The 3rd track is probably the hardest, but luckily Gibbascrapz can help heal Makhotep and Snappawrecka. Snotflogga’s summons will come in handy too.
Gamma Track (No Chaos)
The Gamma track can also be split up into three teams, but you might be able to get away with two teams in the early levels. More on that in a minute; first, let’s go over the three teams.
- Physical Damage Only: Makhotep, Snappwrecka, Gibbascrapz, Tjark, Varro
- No Flying, No Overwatch, No Power Damage: Incisus, Varro, Sho’Syl, Gibbascrapz, Makhotep (Tjark, Snotflogga, Eldryon, Vindicta)
- Max 1 Hit: Calandis, Sho’Syl, Incisus, Varro, (Certus, Azrael, Sibyll)
The first team is pretty straightforward and is almost an exact copy of the same team in the Beta Track, except it has Tjark and Varro instead of the Orks. You can use the Orks instead if you’d like, but Tjark and Varro might fair better. The 2nd team is a hodgepodge and might have to get split up into two separate teams depending on your roster. The final team doesn’t have a lot of wiggle room, but the final character can be a toss-up between Certus, Azrael, and Sibyll. Just turtle around Incisus to keep your guys alive (hopefully).
What packs should I buy for the Aun’shi event?
There are two event packs for every LRE: One that unlocks a Premium Mission track, gives you a free token every day (no ad-watch required), six bonus tokens to use immediately, and gives +15 Engrams for every payout from the event or missions. The second crate is just 2700 Blackstone and 300 Engrams.
If you only wanted to buy one pack, you’re going to get way more value out of the first one than the second one. The Blackstone pack is essentially just that, 2700 Blackstone with 300 Engrams thrown in. The first pack allows you to get 300 extra Engrams from completing both mission tracks on top of the bonus Engrams from getting points during the event. That’s why if you could only buy one, you should buy the Philosophies of War Bonus Shipment bundle.
Wrap Up
Hopefully, you can go into the event with a slightly better game plan now. Remember, look at the infographics from Nandi, see who is required, and upgrade those units accordingly. You’ll get more bang for your buck by upgrading units required in multiple spots of the event rather than Archimatos, who is only useful in one or two spots (although Archi is one of the best characters in the game, so you should probably upgrade him anyways).
Take your time, move your best equipment onto the characters you’re going to be using, and remember that this is endgame content, so don’t be discouraged when the difficulty ramps up. Good luck!
